Complete AC tune-up$169
Your outdoor unit pulls air in through its coil, so all the grass clippings, pollen and dust collect on the outside face. Rinse that face from the outside, which is what almost everyone does, and you push the dirt further into the coil rather than off it. It looks cleaner from the garden and it breathes worse than before.
What to actually do. Power off at the disconnect by the unit, then rinse from the inside out so the water carries the dirt back the way it came in. On most units that means lifting the top grille off, and that is the honest point at which this stops being a job for everybody. If you are not comfortable taking the top off, rinsing gently from outside is still better than a coil packed solid, but it is not the same job.
And do not use a pressure washer. The fins are thin aluminium. Flattening them restricts the airflow permanently, and a garden hose will not put them back. Straightening a matted coil is a fin comb and a lot of patience, which is one of the things we do on a tune-up.
Switch on what your AC has been doing
A quick guide, not a diagnosis. A certified technician confirms the details on site.
A full multi point AC inspection by a certified HVAC technician.
Deep cleaning of coils, filters and the drain line to restore efficiency.
Full performance optimisation so your system runs cooler for less.
A written report with the readings, so next year has something to compare against.
A free electrical inspection of the circuit, disconnect and connections that power the system.
Most companies are either HVAC or electrical. We hold both licences, so while the system is being tuned, the circuit, disconnect and connections that power it are inspected by somebody qualified to fix what they find rather than to report it and refer you on. That inspection is included.
Most mid summer failures start as something small in spring that nobody looked at.
A dirty coil and a restricted filter both make the compressor run longer for the same cooling.
The least visible benefit and probably the largest.
Including the condensate drain, which is the single most common cause of a shutdown that looks like a breakdown.

Virginia contractor license 2705181607 covers the HVAC and the electrical. While the system is being tuned, the circuit, disconnect and connections that feed it get looked at by somebody licensed to work on them.
For the equipment and for the wiring behind it, which on outdoor equipment is not a small distinction.
If something needs doing you get told what, why, and what it costs before anything happens. If nothing needs doing you get told that too.

Our complete AC tune-up is $169 and includes a free electrical inspection of the circuit, disconnect and connections that power your system. Because we hold both the HVAC and the electrical licence, that inspection is done by somebody qualified to act on what they find rather than to report it and refer you elsewhere.
A full inspection and testing of your system, deep cleaning of coils, filters, and the drain line, and performance optimization including lubrication, airflow, and refrigerant checks, plus a complete system cycling test.
Once or twice a year is ideal. A spring tune-up before cooling season is the best time, since it prepares your system for summer and helps you avoid breakdowns when you need cooling most.
Your AC is an electrical appliance. Because we are licensed Master Electricians too, we can check the connections, breakers, and wiring that power it, catching hazards a standard HVAC tune-up would never look at.
As early as possible before summer. During a heatwave, technicians get booked solid, so scheduling ahead means you beat the rush and stay comfortable. A service agreement adds two tune-ups a year and priority scheduling.
Partly, and the direction matters more than the effort. Rinsing a condenser coil from the outside pushes the dirt further into the coil rather than off it, and a pressure washer will flatten the fins as well. The correct direction is from the inside out, which on most units means taking the top grille off, and that is where this stops being a job for everybody. Power off at the disconnect first, every time. There is a section further up this page showing what the two directions actually do.
Readings. Temperatures, pressures, amp draws and the condition of what was inspected, written down rather than described at the door. A tune-up you cannot check afterwards, and cannot compare against next year, was a visit rather than a service.
